9A favicon icon is a small icon which also sometimes called a website icon.It is displayed in the tiitle bar of the browser when you open a website.It can be animated or a simple image of size 16*16 px.Installing favicon in wordpress is simple task that can be implemented by two methods.Both of these methods are so simple that even a newbie can do it easily.Lets start the tutorial to add favicon into your wordpress blog.This tutorial is only for self hosted blogs.
The two methods to install favicon are
1. Install favicon manually (recommended)
2. Install favicon using a plugin
We reccomend that you should install the favicon manually becuase it is quite simple and you need to have atleast this much knowlege of wordpress.Moreover if you decide to go for the plugins to add the favicon into your wordpress blog then also you have to perform half of the steps manually as no completely automatic plugin is available till date.So, why not do it yourself and learn something new.
Before installing a favicon you should have following
1. A ftp client like filezilla.
2. A favicon image of size 16*16 saved with name favicon.ico(you can download favicons for free at http://www.favicon.cc)
Here is the step by step tutorial
1. Upload the favicon.ico file into your themes directory using filezilla.The address of the directory would be something like this “/wp-content/themes/your_theme_name/ “(without quotes).
2. Now go to your wordpress admin panel.
3. Click on appearance and then on editior.
4. Open header.php file.
5. Add the following code “/favicon.ico” />” (without quotes) anywhere before the clossing tag .
6. Now save the file.And thats it.
Close the browser and open your website.You will see your favicon.If still it is not visible then clear the cache and cookies of your browser and open the website again.
